SPRINGFIELD – More than $3 billion in funding could soon be on its way to help local communities and programs thanks to the Illinois Senate.

Today, the Senate approved SB2039, which clears the way for $3.1 billion to be used for local road repairs and winter maintenance, domestic violence shelters, 9-1-1 emergency services, lottery prizes and numerous other programs.

“This is long overdue. These are local dollars and this finally gets them in local hands where they can do some good,” said Senator Michael Noland (D-Elgin). “This bipartisan proposal is a step in the right direction and I was proud to support it.”

The legislation next goes to Gov. Bruce Rauner. The dollars cannot be released until he signs it into law.
