SPRINGFIELD- This week the Senate voted on a measure that would appropriate 3.9 billion in funds to various agencies in need.

The legislation, SB 2046, would fund social service programs, higher education and other programs not currently receiving money during the budget impasse. Senator Michael Noland (D-Elgin) released the following statement after voting in support of the plan.

“What the governor fails to realize is that he is playing with human lives. Without this funding, mental health organizations, senior homes, treatment centers and colleges are shutting down. In my district a group home for mentally ill women is closing. College students are being asked to pay back grant awards because the state has not funded them. Lives are being destroyed because the governor and Republicans continue in ruinous opposition to simply meeting the just demands of our people.”

The legislation will now be presented to the governor for his approval.
